Matthias Jakob received his Diploma (1995) and PhD (1999)
degrees in theoretical physics at the Department of Quantum
Physics of Wolfgang Schleich, University of Ulm, Germany,
working in the field of quantum optics and foundations of
quantum mechanics. His research included quantum information
theory, quantum measurement theory, quantum optics, and foundations
of quantum mechanics, at the Quantum Optics Department of Janos
Bergou and Mark Hillery, Hunter College, City University of New
York, New York USA, (1997-2002); theory of open quantum systems,
entropy functionals, time reversal, and control theory, at the
Quantum Optics Department of Stig Stenholm, Royal Institute of
Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, (2002-2004), this research
was involved in the COCOMO-project of the 5th framework of the EU;
quantification of entanglement and the role of quantum correlations
in secure quantum key distribution at the Quantum Information Theory
Group of Norbert Lütkenhaus, University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany
(04/2004-10/2004). Since October 2004 he is at ARCS as a Hertha-Firnberg
fellow continuing to work on quantum correlations and its role in secure
quantum key distribution, quantum information theory, and quantum cryptography.
