Momtchil Peev studied Mathematics and Physics at the University of Sofia,
Bulgaria. He received his MS (1986) and PhD (1993) degrees at the Department of
Solid State Physics at the Faculty of Physics, University of Sofia. Later, during
his post-doc Lise-Meitner Fellowship (1993-1995, Inst. of Theoretical, Physics,
Vienna University of Technology) and subsequently (1995-1997, ARCS post-doc fellowship)
he focused on theoretical research in the field of the foundations of Quantum Mechanics
(Quantum and Semiclassical Dynamics in Phase Space formalisms), closely related to Quantum
Information Theory. Since 1997 he is research associate at ARCS working initially in the
field of applied modelling and simulation, software architecture and design and managing
international co-operations in this field. Since 2001 he works in the field of Quantum
Cryptography and Quantum Information Theory. He is responsible for Quantum Information
Theory support for developing practical Quantum Key Distribution, development of QKD
protocols (including simulation of the experimental arrangement, error correction of
the bit strings, privacy amplification) and leads the development of a Quantum Key
Distribution Network prototype within the framework of the integrated EU project SECOQC.
